Paul Yaxley Luxury Eyewear supports the charity Vision Aid Overseas. The aim of the charity is to examine the eyes of needy people in the developing world and correct their eyesight with spectacles. This is achieved through teams of volunteers visiting some of the poorest areas of the world and setting up temporary clinics. The projects are currently run in Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, India, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi and Zambia.
Eye care professionals volunteer for the trips and fund themselves. Every pair of spectacles dispensed can make a massive difference to ordinary people’s lives.
Some of the children may have already lost one or more of their senses but a simple pair of spectacles may restore their sight. Many of the children are genuinely thrilled at the prospect of being able to attend school when their vision is restored, as their education is invaluable. A patient on one trip had such bad eyesight that she had never seen her child until her vision was corrected with a simple pair of spectacles.
In addition to providing spectacles Vision Aid Overseas provides equipment and training for local people to continue providing and repairing the spectacles.
Paul Yaxley is commited to supporting the work of Vision aid Overseas by donating a percentage of all sales to the charity. In 2005 Paul completed a cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groat’s, a thousand mile trip to raise funds and awareness for the charity. In 2007 Paul is planning to compete in a marathon race to further promote the charity.
